A Sense of Community Drives Great Cultures at the World’s Best Workplaces

Great Place to Work® releases its 5th annual list of the 25 World's Best Multinational Workplaces; Google takes top spot

Great Place to Work®'s new report based on surveys of more than 500,000 employees across 47 countries finds that camaraderie is central to what makes the World's Best so great.

SAN FRANCISCO, October 13, 2015 – Employees at the World's Best workplaces have spoken: it takes a community to make a company great.

A new study by research and consulting firm Great Place to Work® into the World's Best Multinational Workplaces finds that a spirit of camaraderie is central to employee perceptions that their cultures are great.

With the new report, Company as Community, Great Place to Work also released its 5th annual list of the 25 World's Best Multinational Workplaces. Technology giant Google ranks #1 for the third straight year. Rounding out the top five on the list are software firm SAS Institute, specialty manufacturer W.L. Gore, data storage specialist NetApp and mobile communications provider Telefónica.

Great Place to Work® has been studying great workplace cultures worldwide and producing best workplace lists for more than three decades, and continues to find that trust, pride and camaraderie are universal foundations to a great workplace. Particular components of those foundations take on greater importance in different regions and at different historical moments. To help today's global companies understand how best to build or improve a great workplace, we examined which of the Great Place to Work® Trust Index© survey statements best predicted World's Best employees' response to the overall statement, "Taking everything into account, I would say this is a great place to work." (There are 58 statements in total on the Trust Index©.)

The analysis, which involved survey responses from more than half a million employees at the 2015 World's Best, found that six of the top 15 drivers indicate a festive, inclusive community is key to what makes the World's Best great. (See highlighted statements from our Trust Index© in chart.)

Employees at the 25 top global companies also value competent management and workplace basics like safe job conditions.

The Company as Community report provides details about the findings and their connection to global trends, explains the way great cultures are a competitive advantage, and offers a set of recommendations based on the research.

The report also includes the full list of the 2015 World's Best. This year's set of listed companies is the latest sign that any workplace can be great. The Best Workplaces represent operations in 47 different countries and come from industries ranging from cosmetics and candy to computer software and chemicals. Other listed companies are from the retail, financial services and hospitality fields.
