Creating a Model for Strategic Decision-making, Empowerment, and Engagement for ALL

Nabeela Ixtabalan, Country Human Resources Manager

Session date/time : TBD

Nabeela Ixtabalan, Country Human Resources Manager – IKEA US

Ikea LogoAfter years of operating on a traditional governance approach to decision-making, leaders at IKEA realized that their culture and values were no longer fitting into the traditional mold, so they developed a model that put trust-based leadership at the center of their practice. As a result, they built a system based on the belief that mistakes do not dictate the success of an organization and developed an interdependent culture that welcomes diverse opinions from all levels, regardless of position.

Operating under this notion of cross-collaboration and creating new and innovative processes, IKEA began to involve leaders into strategic forums and processes designed to share mutual accountability in the long-term direction of the company. IKEA invited over 5,000 co-workers (nearly 40% of its US workforce) to design an organizational approach for the future and over 1,200 were invited to build the company’s long-term strategic direction.

In this session, IKEA will share their approach to an interdependent and inclusive governance and decision-making.

Three key learning objectives:

  • Learning examples of how to involve leaders throughout the organization in
strategic decision-making forums and business planning.
  • Understanding the importance of elevating an open-door approach through inviting co-workers to co-create a future organization.
  • Knowledge of how a trust-based model creates transparency, increased performance, and engagement among employees.
