Bill Anderson

CEO, Genentech

Bill Anderson is CEO of Genentech and head of North America Commercial Operations. He joined Genentech in 2006 as head of the Immunology Business Unit and became responsible for US Immunology and Ophthalmology before being appointed Senior Vice President of the BioOncology Business Unit in 2010. He led Global Product Strategy and served as Chief Marketing Officer for Roche for three years prior to taking his current role.

Bill is known among employees as an authentic and approachable leader who is committed to doing what is best for patients, pursuing groundbreaking science and creating an environment where our employees can fully contribute their talents. He spends considerable time thinking about how to nurture and evolve our culture to best serve the company's purpose.

Prior to joining Genentech, Bill worked for nine years at Biogen, and for four years at Ethyl Corporation, a specialty chemicals company. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of positions in engineering, operations, finance and sales and marketing, with assignments in the Netherlands, Belgium, the UK and Switzerland.

He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Texas, and master's degrees in management and chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
