Cynthia "Cynt" Marshall

Senior Vice President-Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer, AT&T

In her role as Senior Vice President – Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer, Cynthia (Cynt) Marshall is responsible for identifying and developing leaders, aligning employees with the company's vision and priorities, overseeing major business unit HR support, and employee engagement. She also leads AT&T's efforts to leverage its longstanding leadership in diversity and inclusion to drive sustained innovation and growth – as well as the company's EEO and affirmative action policies. She was appointed to the Chief Diversity Officer position in March 2015.

Previously, Cynt served as Senior Vice President – Human Resources. Before that she was President – AT&T North Carolina, where she oversaw the company's regulatory, legislative and community affairs activities in the state. In this role, Cynt became the first African-American chair of the North Carolina State Chamber of Commerce.

Cynt joined Pacific Bell in 1981, and over the years has held management positions in operations, human resources, network engineering and planning, and regulatory/external affairs.

Widely recognized for her leadership, Cynt was named one of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Corporate America" by Black Enterprise Magazine in 2015. She was also honored as the 2014 HR Executive of the Year by the Best in Biz Awards, an independent, international business awards program. And in 2013, Cynt received the prestigious Leadership North Carolina's Governors Award, which honors one citizen of the state for lifetime achievements.

Cynt has a passion for young people and education, and puts that passion to work. In North Carolina she served as co-chair of the Joint Legislative Commission on Dropout Prevention and High School Graduation – and was named a "Friend of Education" by the state Board of Education for her untiring support of students and schools. Cynt currently helps young people by serving on the Dallas CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Executive Leadership Council – the preeminent member organization for the development of global black leaders whose mission is to increase the number of successful black executives.

Cynt graduated from the University of California-Berkeley with degrees in business administration and human resources management. Additionally, she's received honorary doctorates from Livingstone College and Bennett College.

The fourth of six children, Cynt grew up in Richmond, California, and now lives in the Dallas area. She and her husband, Kenneth Marshall, have three children. A self-professed sports nut and soccer mom, her favorite movie is Brian's Song. Cynt is a colon cancer survivor.
